Map of 8 Day North and South Luangwa Combo Safari

Please note that this seasonal tour only operates from mid-June to the end of October.

4 nights at Tafika Camp, South Luangwa

On arrival at Mfuwe International Airport, you'll be met and transferred by road (1h30 to 2h drive) or, at an additional cost, by a 15-minute flight to Mwanya/Lukuzi Airstrip, about 15 minutes drive from Tafika Camp.

Situated on the banks of the Luangwa River with only six spacious thatched chalets, Tafika is an intimate safari camp just outside South Luangwa National Park, right next to the Nsefu Sector which is said to be its most beautiful part.

Remote and relaxing, Tafika Camp is the perfect choice for those looking to get away from it all.

You're offered various game activities at Tafika. On open vehicle game drives, you're unlikely to encounter any other vehicles and even more so when you're on foot on a guided bushwalk. It is also the only camp in the region that offers mountain bike safaris which enable you to see the bush from an interesting new perspective and enjoy a different safari experience.

You also have the opportunity to visit the nearby Mkasanga cultural village as well as its local school that Tafika assists.

The guiding standards at Tafika Camp are very high and their experienced guides really ensure you have a truly memorable safari. On night drives, dedicated spotters also accompany the guides to make sure you see and experience as much as possible. The food is excellent. It's from the camp's own kitchen garden and freshly prepared daily.

3 nights at Mwaleshi, North Luangwa

You'll transfer by road to Mwabya/Lukuzi Airstrip to board a charter aircraft for your FREE FLIGHT to Mwaleshi Camp, set on a scenic bend of the Mwaleshi River.

Mwaleshi Camp is known as a special and remarkable place, set in a pristine wilderness area where there are very few roads. Most of the game-viewing activities are done on foot to really experience this remote area in all its glory: its fauna, its flora, its sights, its scents, and its sounds.

There are only four thatched chalets at Mwaleshi, each built entirely from natural materials with an open-air, en-suite bathroom offering uninterrupted views out over the river and the skies above. Camp life is comfortable yet refreshingly simple.

You're likely to see vast herds of buffalo pass by and there are many lions in the area. Cookson's wildebeest, an endemic sub-species, is also abundant as are spotted hyenas with their whooping call and excited cackle. Interestingly, these hyenae are known to hunt, unlike most of their southern cousins. For bird lovers, some species to be on the lookout for include the chestnut-mantled sparrow weaver, the yellow-throated longclaw and the white-winged starling.

Your days will generally consist of an early rise and bushwalk (to avoid the heat of the day), with a qualified guide. These walks are tailored to the group's abilities and a halfway stop allows for tea and coffee to be brewed over an open fire.

You'll return to camp mid-morning for time to relax, enjoy lunch and a siesta before the late afternoon walk, from around 16h00 to dusk. You'll be supplied with personal drinking water and a bearer will bring the half-time refreshment goodies. It's advisable to bring a pair of worn-in, lightweight comfortable walking shoes or boots. The ground is generally level but can be uneven.

Time and conditions permitting, you may also be able to do a day trip to the scenic Mwaleshi Falls, one of the region's top attractions.

On the last day, you'll board the charter flight back to Mfuwe International Airport for your connecting travel arrangements.

Important: As with most light aircraft charters in the area, you're limited to 15kg luggage, preferably in a soft bag (e.g. duffel-type)
